Double-glazed windows

A double-glazed unit is a construction of two or more panes of glass, separated by spacers of different sizes, between which there is a hermetically sealed space. The spacer, which is most often aluminum, serves to separate the glasses by a certain distance, and the moisture trapped inside together with the air during the production of the glass unit is absorbed by the absorbent with which it is filled.

A double-glazed unit is a construction of two or more panes of glass, separated by spacers of different sizes, between which there is a hermetically sealed space. The spacer, which is most often aluminum, serves to separate the glasses by a certain distance, and the moisture trapped inside together with the air during the production of the glass unit is absorbed by the absorbent with which it is filled. To improve the thermal insulation characteristics, it is recommended to use a High selective spacer or “warm edging”. It is made of PVC materials with lower thermal conductivity. For double-glazed windows with a High selective spacer, a reduction in the heat transfer coefficient of about 7% can be achieved, and it reduces the risk of condensation forming on the edges of the glass.

The glazing unit is about 80% of the area of the entire window/door. Main characteristics of its quality are a

thermal insulation U (W/m²K);
noise insulation R (dB);
sun protection or solar factor g (%);
light transmittance (%);
UV transmittance.

Depending on the type of glass used in the glazing, a different effect is achieved. The composition of glasses with different thickness (e.g. 5 mm. + 4 mm.) results in a better absorption of resonant oscillations.
